Are The Chocolate Bunnies Coming To Get You - The Myth Concerning Chocolate

Well Happy Easter, will the chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs get you??

Does Chocolate make me break out?
Well alot of people are sensitive to lactose, which is found in milk, cheese, chocolate, yogurt etc. And alot of people find that if they eat this time of food they tend to break out in white type pimple heads and also break out in the cheek area.

This in Chinese Medicine represents the lung area and when we have had to much dairy alot of people start to break out in this region.
Though science tells us no one food group triggers acne.

But in our practice we have found that people that eat dairy products may have a sensitivity and tend to break out. In other words watch what you are eating how much you are consuming, then take a look at your skin 4 days later.

Generally it takes the body 4 days to react internally with break outs to something it is not breaking down well. Drink lots of water, correctly clean your skin, do not over strip the skin, as this will cause further oil production, and irritate the surface. Use a oil free moisturiser to protect the surface, wash pillow slip regularly, Do not pick pimples, this will allow for bacteria to spread.
Gently exfoliate once a week.
Deep Cleansing masks are effective for cleaning the skin - ones that are clay base are good.

Bridal Tips for 2009

Our top tips to help you organise and prepare for your special wedding day.

6 months prior to the big day organise makeup and hairdresser,by booking a trial for your wedding day. To make life easier for The Makeup Artist and Hairdresser go through magazines for looks that are exactly to your liking, save the pages for your trials and file away for your wedding day, makeup and hair looks
  1. Start regular facials-we would recommend at least 6 months prior book your favourite salon every month for a deep cleanse, exfoliation, massage and mask. This will help with skin texture, blackheads, pimples and relaxation, and of course any fine lines.
  2. Book a spray tan and check the colour the therapist is using, take the name of therapist and if you like the spray tan, book the same girl if available 1 day prior to the special day. You can top up with Napoleon Summer Sun Self Tanning Spray or the Summer Lovers Self Tan Mousse both give a great natural colour.
  3. Start exfoliation 1 x week over your whole body, this will help with skin texture, moving lymph and toxins, and allow absorption of body moisturising creams more easily. Exfoliate and mask your face weekly to start improving facial texture, facial fine lines, improve deep cleansing of open pores, pimples and blackheads.
  4. Ensure waxing and facial, manicure and pedicures, spray tan are all booked 2 months prior to your wedding, Book facial 3 days before, 2 days before manicure and pedicure, 1 days before wedding book spray tan, you dont want it coming off.
  5. Start regular exercise and drink loads of water, to cleanse system up your vitamins, eat regularly and Learn deep breathing exercises to ease any stress leading up to your big day.
  6. When your big day is close organise with your mother in law or old friend to carry your emergency Touch up Kit - should contain, lip gloss, touch up powder, lip stick, breath freshner, hair spray and hair brush, perfume - make a list of two extra things you may need.
  7. Remember to take with you a picture of a makeup that best describes the look you are after for your wedding makeup. This will allow your makeup artist to make sure that your makeup is exactly how you want it. Hopefully it is the same picture that you use when you first had your trial makeup.

  8. Use waterproof mascara on the big day, most brides will shed a tear or two - remember to pack a waterproof mascara remover so you dont end up the morning after with Panda eyes.
9.       Use a large Blush brush dusted with powder to set foundation press powder into skin        then gently buff downwards - so any fine hairs on the face wont attract sunlight. For a long    lasting lipstick for the special day - prepare the lips making sure that they are totally dry, no    moisturiser, gel or lip gloss. Nothing - then get a lip pencil very close to your natural colour cover the whole lip area, and draw the lips, set with a little dusting of powder, then fill in your lips with a natural shade, antique warm coffee, nude and natural look is in. And then using a little gloss dab in the middle of the top and bottom lip

10.Use a lip seal if available.
                         11.  Make sure your lips are dry before kissing, sipping drinks etc.
Finally - Relax-Every Bride should enjoy her day. This day goes so fast and hopefully it will bring you long and happy memories.

Smoking May Give You Spots -

This information has been sourced from the BBC.
Woman with NIA
This type of acne is characterised by white heads and small cysts
Women who smoke are more likely to develop a form of acne than those who do not, research from Italy suggests.

A study of 1,000 women found over 40% those who smoked had non-inflammatory acne, characterised by blocked pores, large white heads and small cysts.

This compared with 10% of non-smokers, the study published in the British Journal of Dermatology found.

However, the link between smoking and spots is controversial, and the authors admit other factors may play a role.

Nevertheless, the team from the San Gallicano Dermatological Institute in Rome said they felt their findings could lead to non-inflammatory acne (NIA) being seen as "a new entity among smoking-related cutaneous diseases".

They dubbed it "smokers' acne face".

Teenage spots

The study was carried out on women because the condition appears to affect more women than men.

All of these findings will hopefully provide people with an extra incentive to quit
Colin Holden
British Association of Dermatologists

Of the 1,000 subjects, just under 30% were smokers. Of these 42.2% developed acne, predominantly the non-inflammatory form rather than the one featuring red and swollen spots.

The researchers said the smokers in the group had half the levels of skin secretions of vitamin E compared with non-smokers, as well as other variations in skin make-up.

Those who had experienced acne in their teens were found to be four times more likely to suffer acne than non-smokers who had also suffered teenage spots.

Other factors have however already been identified in the development of NIA, including hormonal alterations, stress, occupational and environmental factors.

Environmental factors were found in half of the 10% of non-smokers with the condition. Such factors included the skin being exposed for instance to intense smoke or steam, usually in a place of work such as a kitchen.

It is unclear the extent to which these factors may also have influenced the development of NIA in non-smokers.

Nonetheless, the study fitted into a trend of linking smoking with acne, said the president of the British Association of Dermatologists, Colin Holden.

"All of these findings will hopefully provide people with an extra incentive to quit."
